Remix Culture
Remix culture is a society that allows and encourages creative works by combining or editing existing materials to produce a new product.

Girl talk is an artist that creates mash ups with existing hit songs by manipulating the track and/or mixing it with another beat to make some thing new and current.

Reflection
To explore the culture I experiemented with manipulating and remixing an image of the actor Megann Good on the free software GIMP.
1) Original image
2) Using the lasso tool to cut around the image
3) Fill background with black
4) Filter - Blur- Gaussian blur - Grain extract - Desaturate; Colour - Curves - Create engraved
5) Layer Mode - Grain Merge; New Layer - Add Pattern
Final Remixed Image
In todays lecture we watched a documentary about Pirates Bay to get a stronger insight on copyright issues around the world. The Pirate Bay is a Swedish website that provides magnet links to facilitate peer-to-peer file sharing using the BitTorrent protocol.
A Remixer’s Manifesto

1. Culture always builds on the past
2. Our past always tries to control the future
3. Our future is becoming less free
4. To build free societies you must limit control of the past
